RE: What do you tow with your Class C ?

I tow a dolly and the Dodge Van and also 18' Cargo trailer.
Weights ?
Also, for anyone else posting, please ad the approximate weight !
Thanks
My enclosed trailer weighted 6500 lbs loaded.
I have not weighted the dolly and the van but I think it around 5000lbs.
Also the rear extension frame and hitch of the motorhome has been beefed by local RV shop plus the WD and electric brake controller.

RE: Expedition or Durango?

If you get 03 and older Durango then Expedition might be your choice. I used to have 98 Expedition EB 4WD and love it but the gas mileage only 10MPG either towing small open trailer or not.
I now have 04 Durango Limited Hemi with 4Low Range and not in tow I get 14-16MPG and towing 6,5k loaded enclosed trailer get 7-8MPG, I dont tow small open trailer anymore so I can not tell the gas mileage.
Here is a compare 04 Dodge Durango 5.7 v.s 04 Ford Expedition
2004 Ford Expedition Power,
4.6L 232 hp @ 4750 rpm
5.4L 260 hp @ 4500 rpm
Torque,
4.6L 291 lb-ft @ 3450 rpm
5.4L 350 lb-ft @ 2500 rpm
Transmission 4-speed automatic
overdrive
Final drive ratio 3.73:1
2004 Dodge Durango 5.7l
Power 335 bhp (257 kW) @ 5400 rpm,
Torque 370 lb.-ft. (509 N•m) @ 4200 rpm
Final drive ratio 3.55 with option 3.92

RE: Durango vs Tahoe

Into snowmobileing and towing a 5000 lb load 4 place inclosed trailer. Before we got the 2500HD we had both 99 Durango 5.7 and 03 yukon Denali 6.0. No competion The yukon was better in every way including Milage and Power and les sway.
I am not sure about your 99 Dodge Durango but since 2004 Dodge released a new re-designed Dodge Durango improved alot compared to the previous models. Here is a review of Top 10 vehicles towing

RE: Class C motorhome using weight ditribution

Thanks everyone for yours input.
After local RV shop reinforced the RV hitch (3500 lbs original) by welding and braced at the rear frame extension and the hitch they recommended to use the weight distribution since I told them that I will be towing 18' enclosed trailer 7k lbs gross weight.
I have 2001 Ford E450 26' no slide and here is from local scale station
Motorhome fully loaded front axle 2700 lbs rear axle 10,200 lbs.
Motorhone fully loaded total 12,900 lbs.
Gross trailer weight 5,840 lbs.
Trailer tongue weight 860 lbs.
Trailer gross weight when connected to motorhome 4,980 lbs.
Before buying the weight distribution I want to see how much tongue weight it will transfer to the motorhome. I also tow the same trailer with my 04 Durango.
I have air bag on both TV so I dont see that much weight applied to my TV's rear axle at this time but if there is a way to transfer some tongue weight to TV I think it better.

Class C motorhome using weight ditribution

Has anyone using weight distribution for your Class C towing enclosed trailer? I have my hitch re-enforced by local RV shop and thinking to use weight distribution to tow 18' enclosed trailer (5800 lbs loaded and 860 lbs TW)
Thanks for your input.

RE: Weight distribution question

Thanks everyone for the nice reply and info. I am currently towing tandem axle enclosed trailer 18' with 860 lbs TW and 5800 lbs trailer loaded with my class C and 04 Dodge Durango.
I am towing without WD and thinking to buy a Eaz-lift 10k WD and want to see how much tongue weight will be transfer to the front axle of the class C and the Durango.
Thanks again everyone and Happy Camping !

RE: Battery Tray pictures

time_to_go_now
Thanks for your reply.
We have 2 6v batteries bought from Sams Club about over 2 years now and it hold the power for about 2 days with microwave and TVs ...
I have upgraded to 65amp WFCO converter/charger at the same time with replaced the battery.
Since ours have no slide so I think added another 140 lbs should be ok to the unit.
I like your setup with pulling toybox behind.
I am currently pulling 18' Haulmark cargo since having Wipperts RV reinforced the towing hitch.

Battery Tray pictures

Can someone post the pictures of your dual batteries tray location?
Mine have single 12v behind the rear wheels on driver side and I have made a bracket for 1 more (2x6v now) next to it. But doing dry camp for few days is not enough power so I am thinking to make another bracket for 2 more 6v. I appreciate the pictures.

RE: Durango vs Tahoe

Atvanish
Just an FYI Tahoe/Yukon doesn't offer 3rd row seat unless you go with Suburban/Yukon XL.
Here is a towing info for those vehicles
2005 Tahoe
2005 Suburban 1500 and 2500
2005 Dodge Durango
This is NOT true. In fact, just try to find a Tahoe WITHOUT a third seat!
You are correct Tahoe has offer 3rd row seat.
I would go with Durango Hemi 5.7L and 3.92s gear ratio since it has 5sp trans and more HP and torque compare to Tahoe.
